You have a constitutional right to vote in your elected leaders. Here at the LaRue County Clerk’s Office we plan on providing you with everything you need to do that!

2026 Election filings can begin November 5, 2025 and ends at 4:00 PM January 9, 2026

Candidate Filing information

11/5/25 – Earliest date for the affixing of signatures on candidate filing forms for an office on the ballot in 2026 (not prior to the first Wednesday after the first Monday in November of the year preceding the year the office will appear on the ballot). 11/5/25 – County Clerks, within five (5) business days following the date of receiving a candidate’s nomination papers, shall transmit the candidate’s information to the Secretary of State. · The information shall include: the candidate’s name, title of office sought, the district number of the office sought (if applicable), his or her email address or post office box address, political party (if partisan), and the date of receiving his or her nomination papers.  KRS 118.205 KRS 118.205(2)(b) & (3) KRS 118.387
1/9/26 – 4:00 PM Candidate filing deadline: last day to file nomination papers for candidates who must run in primary to file a statement of candidacy form with the same office at which nomination papers are filed (first Friday following the first Monday in January). PRE-ELECTION ACTIVITIES
November 5, 2025 – Earliest date for the affixing of signatures on candidate filing forms for an office on the ballot in 2026.

December 31, 2025 – Last day to change political party affiliation and be eligible to vote in the political party’s upcoming primary election.

January 9, 2026, at 4 PM – Candidate filing deadline: last day to file nomination papers for candidates who must run in the primary.
April 20, 2026, at 4 PM – Last day to register to vote for the primary.

June 2, 2026, at 4 PM – Non-partisan candidate filing deadline.
October 5, 2026, at 4 PM – Last day to register or make changes for the General Election.

PRIMARY ELECTION
April 4, 2026, to May 5th, 2026, at 11:59 PM – Online mail-in absentee portal open for PRIMARY ELECTION mail-in ballot requests.

April 20, 2026, at 4 PM – Last day to register to vote for the primary.

May 6th to 8th and 11th to 13th, 2026 – Excused, in-person absentee voting.

May 14th to 16th, 2026 – ln person, no-excuse early voting.

May 19, 2026, from 6 AM to 6 PM – PRIMARY ELECTION DAY.

GENERAL ELECTION
September 19, 2026, to 0ctober 20, 2026 at 11:59 PM – Online mail-in absentee portal open for mail-in ballot requests.

October 5, 2026, at 4 PM – Last day to register or make changes for the General Election.

October 21st to 23rd and 26th to 28th, 2026 – Excused, in-person absentee voting.

October 29th to 31st, 2026 – In person, no-excuse early voting.

November 3, 2026, from 6 AM – 6 PM – GENERAL ELECTION DAY.

Additional Information

Paper Ballots
Voters unable to get to the polls on Election Day are eligible to vote by paper absentee ballot. You must meet one of the following
requirements:

– Due to advanced age, disability, illness, or medical emergency
– You are a member of the Armed forces
– You are a dependent of a member of the Armed forces
– You are a student attending school outside the county of your voter registration
– You temporarily reside outside the state but are still eligible to vote in Kentucky
– You are incarcerated in jail and have been charged but not convicted of a crime

You may request an application for the paper ballot in person, by mail, by phone, or by fax.

The application must be completed & mailed to the County Clerk prior to 7 days before the election. Once the Clerk receives the application,
the paper ballot will be sent to the voter. Please allow ample time for your ballot to be returned to you & to be mailed back to the clerk to
be received by 6 P.M. on Election Day.

Voting by Absentee Machine
If you are going to be out of town on Election Day and you do not qualify for a paper ballot, you may vote on an absentee machine in the
County Clerk’s office at least 12 days prior to the election.
